The first meeting of the new club was held on October 15, 1973, at the Council Bluffs, Iowa, Airport. At this informal meeting, temporary officers were elected and instructed to hold an organizational meeting. The meeting, held a week later, established the Council Bluffs Airport as the headquarters and monthly meeting place for the club. The EAA granted the Midwest Aerobatic Club its IAC Chapter 80 charter on April 16th, 1974. Originally, there were 27 charter members. The club has grown from nothing to a membership at times approaching 100. However, we measure progress in more than mere growth. Our real success story lies in an active membership. Throughout the years, such club events as judging schools, play days for flying and judging, safety seminars, the sportsman and regional contests, air shows and fun things like Christmas parties, have reflected members' hard work with rewarding results. Club pilots have carried this active spirit with them to aerobatic meets across the nation. Our first regional contest was held in 1974, the weekend of July 4th and drew 27 contestants, of which 12 were club members. Two years later, in terms of number of contestants, (68), we rivaled the IAC and ACA national meets. Since 1974, we have hosted the Midwest Aerobatic Championship Competition around the Fourth of July at the Council Bluffs Airport, the Harlan, Iowa Airport, the Clarinda, Iowa Airport and most recently, the Seward, Nebraska Airport. Over the last several years, we have supplemented our regional multi-category meet with a Springtime "Primary & Sportsman Only" contest. As we approach the end of our 3rd decade of existence, we dedicate this web site to all of those
who have helped bring us to this point in our history. This is an appropriate time and place to thank
all of our current and past club members, their families, and our supporting flying enthusiasts across the country
who have contributed to help keep our contests safe, efficient, friendly and fun. |
